Fuel Farm Progress Update: Expanding Capacity at NC Global TransPark

The North Carolina Global TransPark (GTP) is making significant strides in the construction of its new fuel farm, an essential addition to its state-of-the-art aviation infrastructure. Strategically located next to the airport’s expansive 11,500-foot runway, this facility is designed to meet the growing fuel service demands driven by recent tenant expansions and anticipated future growth in the aerospace sector. The farm replaces a

A Modern Fuel Facility in the Making

The new fuel farm features three vertical steel tanks with a total capacity of 500,000 gallons, making it a pivotal upgrade to the airport’s fuel service capabilities. This advanced facility will provide enhanced control and monitoring of fuel inventories, ensuring a reliable supply for aircraft operations. The project underscores the GTP’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading its infrastructure to support the evolving needs of the aerospace industry.

Construction Progress

The project has seen steady progress, thanks to favorable weather conditions and efficient project management. Key milestones include:

  • Underground Line Installation: All underground fuel lines have been installed, forming the backbone of the system.
  • Foundation Pads: Concrete foundation pads have been poured and are ready to support the steel tanks.
  • Tank Construction: The construction of three vertical steel tanks is well underway. These tanks, made from welded steel plates, are designed for durability and efficiency.
  • Retaining Wall: A rubber membrane-lined concrete retaining wall is being constructed to contain potential spills, emphasizing safety and environmental stewardship.

What’s Next?

Work continues at a brisk pace as crews shift focus to additional phases of the project:

  • Tank Coatings: Interior and exterior coatings for the tanks have been completed, ensuring long-term durability and performance.
  • Pipe Fabrication: Fabrication and coating of the facility’s piping system will proceed through the end of the year.
  • Final Grading and Construction: Once tank crews demobilize, final grading, concrete, and asphalt work will begin. This stage is set to commence in early 2025.

Estimated Completion

The fuel farm is on track for completion in the first quarter of 2025. Once operational, it will significantly enhance the GTP’s capacity to support current tenants while preparing for future growth.

A Commitment to Growth

This project demonstrates the NC Global TransPark’s dedication to investing in infrastructure that meets the needs of today’s aviation and aerospace industries while preparing for tomorrow’s opportunities. The new fuel farm will not only bolster operational reliability but also solidify the GTP’s position as a critical hub for aerospace development in the region.

Stay tuned for further updates as this transformative project nears completion!
